Areas of Expertise

Dr. Dydek is a toxicology expert in evaluating the potential human health effects associated with exposure to toxic chemicals such as asbestos, benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, metals, oil and gas fracking chemicals, pesticides, petroleum products, silica, solvents, toxic gases,  and many other chemicals in the environment and in occupational settings. He also evaluates exposures to microbial agents such as mold and bacteria.

Dr. Dydek functions as an expert witness in toxic tort cases, administrative hearings before environmental agencies, Worker’s Compensation matters, and criminal cases. He is familiar with and abides by the standards that have been established concerning expert witness testimony. He has worked on more than 250 legal cases, given 50 depositions, and testified at trial 10 times over the past 20 years.

Dr. Dydek has training and experience in preparing Baseline Risk Assessments, establishing clean-up guidelines or standards, evaluating the health effects of tobacco smoking, preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets, conducting state of the art toxicological reviews for alternative fuels registrations and other projects, preparing product safety evaluations, and doing chemical exposure assessments.

Education

Dr. Dydek has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in Environmental Science and Engineering. He has also done a Post-doctoral research fellowship in toxicology in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin.

Certifications, Licenses, and Affiliations

Dr. Dydek is a Board-Certified Toxicologist (Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology, D.A.B.T) and a Licensed Professional Engineer (Texas P.E. License #71831). He was an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health at San Antonio from 1987 to 2000. He is an active member of the Society of Toxicology, the American Board of Toxicology, the American College of Toxicology, the Roundtable of Toxicology Consultants, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, and the Air and Waste Management Association. He has also been a technical advisor to the TV shows “CSI” and “Bones”.  He was recently appointed to serve on the Science/Technical Advisory Committee for the World Trade Center Health Program.

Publications, Technical Presentations, Conferences Attended

Dr. Dydek has published technical articles, book reviews, and a book chapter in the areas of environmental engineering and in environmental toxicology. In addition to attending meetings of various professional societies, he has attended more than 150 technical conferences, seminars, and continuing education courses and has given presentations at about 30 of these meetings.
