Dr. Dydek has provided expert witness services in more than 250 toxic tort cases and regulatory agency Public Hearings. He has given approximately 50 depositions and testified at trial 10 times. His work in these cases has included the evaluation of human health risks of exposures to chemical and microbiological agents and investigations of chemical odor nuisance potential. The major types of chemicals Dr. Dydek has evaluated are organic chemicals and solvents, toxic gases, pesticides, metals and other inorganic chemicals, and petroleum products.
Air Quality Permitting Projects
Many states have air quality permitting programs. Part of the permit application process a demonstration by the Applicant that any increased emissions of air contaminants will not harm public health or welfare or cause a nuisance condition.
Human Health Risk Assessments
Many environmental laws and regulations require the use of human health risk assessments. Chief among these are chemical toxicity reviews for air quality or hazardous waste disposal facility permitting and quantitative risk assessments for site cleanups or remediations under Federal and state Superfund-type programs.
Product Safety Evaluations
Dr. Dydek has evaluated the safety of a variety of consumer products. The following consumer products need some form of product safety assessment:
- New types of vehicle fuels (such as “biodiesel”) must be registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Medical implant devices which contain potentially-toxic metals.
- Art materials (paints, paper, poster board) which contain metals and organic chemicals.
- Lubricants used as consumer products such as Liquid Wrench, WD-40, etc. can still have trace amounts of benzene, a known human carcinogen.
